Awesome Ambitions to host open house on Sunday to recruit mentors and participants

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - An open house is scheduled for women and high school girls interested in becoming a part of Awesome Ambitions.

Awesome Ambitions is a goal-setting program for high school girls in the Kansas City area. It was founded in 1997 by Cynthia Newsome and Angela Curry.

The open house will be Sunday, October 13, at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"We have monthly meetings, and special events all geared to giving our girls the skills they need to be successful women," explained Angela Curry, director of Awesome Ambitions.

"The focus right now is on preparing the girls not only go to college, but make sure they have the determination, skills and help they need to graduate from college," Curry added.

Curry was a guest Thursday on 41 Action News Midday with Cynthia Newsome.

"We need women who want to be mentors and teach the girls how to set a goal, how to express themselves in an interview, with friends and on the job," Curry said.

Specifics of the program will be outlined at the open house.  For more information or to contact leaders in the program, visit the Awesome Ambitions homepage .
