Brad Cottam is a former Kansas City Chiefs tight end. A football injury in 2009 ended his football career.

Cottam recovered and now owns KC Speed and Sport, where he recently coached Cynthia Newsome during a workout.

Cottom suffered a broken neck on December 22, 2009.  After surgery and months of physical therapy, Cottam is working, running and even more enthused about exercise and fitness.

He started KC Speed and Sport and offers classes and individual training for all ages and fitness levels.

Cottam invited Newsome to his new training facility at 143rd and 2305 W. 130rd St., in Leawood, Kan. The workout focused on strength-training and dexterity.

"Brad was a great coach," Newsome explained. "He had me put on a belt that was attached to a single bungie cord.

He held the end of the cord while I had to run to bend and touch cones throughout the gym.”

"The tighter he held the rope, the more resistance I had to fight trough to get to the cones it was definitely challenging and I could feel my muscles working harder," Newsome added.

Brad's advice to Newsome was to make a plan, stick to the plan and make sure that you're doing something you enjoy when you exercise.
