KANSAS CITY - He lived with AIDS for decades, but he hasn't given up hope that a cure will be found in our lifetime.
Kansas City resident and author Don Carrel talks about his hopes in his book, "My Dream to Trample AIDS."
According to Carrel, HIV infection rates have declined worldwide 20 percent in the last decade—but not in the United States.
Carrel says he wrote the book to increase AIDS awareness and prevention.
In 2000, Carrel formed a team of more than 1,500 young people to walk with him in the annual AIDS Walk Kansas City.
In three years his group raised more than $100,000 to help those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
