KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Republican Women's Association of Missouri is trying to find the names of female veterans from Missouri who were awarded the Purple Heart. The names of those women will be placed on a special quilt recognizing their accomplishment as part of the Purple Heart Quilt Project.
Leila Cohoon with the Missouri Republican Woman's Association is the founder of Leila's Hair Museum in Independence, Mo.
"I went to a Republican Women's conference and saw that other states had quilts honoring women in their state who were awarded a purple heart and it was the first time I knew that there was an honor quilt project," Cohoon said. "So, I immediately came back home and started working to make sure Missouri has a quilt at our next national convention this summer."
The quilt has a blue background with a white design of the state of Missouri. The women's names will be embroidered onto the state.
"Right now, we only have two women's names on the quilt and I know there were more women veterans in Missouri who were awarded Purple Hearts," she said.
If you have the name of a female from Missouri who was awarded the Purple Heart, please contact Cohoon at Leila's Hair Museum at 816-835-2955 or through their website at,
