A Salina, Kansas native, JD Rudd joined KSHB, 41 Action News in October of 2013 as the weekend evening meteorologist. Prior to that, JD worked at KSNW-TV in Wichita, Kansas for six years where he served as the weeknight meteorologist.
He has earned the TV Seal of Approval by the American Meteorological Society. JD was awarded first and second place for weathercasts from Kansas Association of Broadcasters in 2013. Additionally, he was a part of an anchor team that won back-to-back "Newscast of Year" awards in 2012 and 2013.
JD earned a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University, and is a member of both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. JD also holds a B.A. in Broadcasting from Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota.
JD graduated Salina Central High School in 2001 before making the move to the Frozen Tundra of North Dakota to start college and work full-time in radio. While attending school in North Dakota, JD worked for KIZZ-FM radio and in 2004, he was awarded "Best Radio Show" by the North Dakota Association of Broadcasters. Later that year, he transitioned to television, becoming a weekend weather forecaster and news reporter for KXMC-TV in Minot.
In 2006, JD became Weather Director for KMOT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Minot. While there, he helped to rebuild the station's weather department. JD was awarded "Best Weatherperson in the State" by the North Dakota Broadcasters Association in 2007. Additionally, he has received three Eric Sevareid awards for his weather broadcasts.
JD is excited to be in Kansas City and is looking forward to getting involved in the community. In his free time, he is a self-labeled tech nerd and loves to "geek out" on anything and everything technology related. Yes, he runs custom ROMs on his phone but also knows how to run power tools.
