KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The race is on to get registered for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Last year more than 20,000 people ran and walked in Kansas City's Race for the Cure.
Some were there in memory of a loved one who didn’t survive breast cancer.
Others were honoring loved ones who are breast cancer survivors.
Their combined effort raised $1,000,000 that Komen donated to local programs for breast cancer research, education and screening.
"Organizations like Samuel U. Rodgers Health Venter, Truman Medical Center the St. Luke’s Mobile Mammography, so many organizations are doing that screening and meeting women where they're at,” says Lori Maris, the executive director, KC Komen for the Cure. “We've done a great job getting women educated that they need to get their annual mammography but now its also making sure they have access to those services."
The race is on Sunday, August 12th.
Komen executives remind people that running, walking or just donating, is saving lives.
Our own Cynthia Newsome is a breast cancer survivor.
We set-up a team in her honor and we'd love to have you walk or run with us.
