KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Actor and Overland Park, Kan. native Rob Riggle will “flip the switch” along with host 41 Action News Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak at this year’s KCP&L Plaza Lighting Ceremony, it was announced today.
41 Action News will broadcast the KCP&L Plaza Lighting Ceremony live on Thanksgiving Day, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza. The KCP&L pre-show will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Riggle appeared on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show from 2006 to 2008, and was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2004-2005. He has also appeared in several films, including The Hangover, The Lorax, 21 Jump Street, and Step Brothers.
Riggle attended Shawnee Mission South High School and graduated from the University of Kansas, where he studied theater and film.
He is also a former United States Marine Corps Reserve Lieutenant Colonel.
The annual KCP&L Plaza Lighting Ceremony will include additional guest appearances and a special holiday performance by The Elders , who will also hold a free hour-long concert immediately following the lighting ceremony from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Portions of the show will also feature performances by KCB2, a troupe from the Kansas City Ballet, choirs from KSHB-TV’s “Sounds of the Holiday”, along with finalists and previous winners from the KC Superstar singing competition.
The location of the main stage is similar to last year’s – at Pennsylvania Street and Nichols Road near Brio Tuscan Grille and Burberry. Three firework displays will begin immediately after the flip of the switch.
Recommended nearby parking garages include Valencia Garage on the north side of 47th and Pennsylvania, Granada Garage on Pennsylvania just south of 47th Street, and Seville Garage behind the main stage on Jefferson and Nichols Road.
The KCP&L Plaza Lights will shine daily from 5 p.m. until 3 a.m. Thanksgiving Day through Sunday, January 12, 2014.
