KANSAS CITY, Mo - Jose Hendrix is a musician from Africa who dreams of one day building a performing arts center in the Congo.
Through an online connection, Hendrix is getting help all the way from Kansas City - more than 7,400 miles away.
Kelly Myers is a local songwriter from who joined the cause.
The two are working together on a unique project called KC2CONGO.
Their second annual KC2CONGO benefit concert is May 24 at Californos in Westport.
Myers said money raised from the event will go to help building the performing arts center.
Right now, they're creating a song with help from students on both continents.
The first part will be recorded by school children in Kansas City. Then it will go to the Congo, so school children there can finish it up and write the second half of the song.
"We really see it as extending our hand in unity between American and African school children to develop a relationship that will hopefully last forever," Myers said.
