Lisa Benson joined 41 Action News as a general assignment reporter in March of 2004. You can see her live, late breaking reports on the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts.
Lisa is an award-winning journalist who developed her passion for story telling while writing for her high school newspaper. While chasing her dreams, Lisa has had the opportunity to cover the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C.
Lisa's first television job took her to St. Joseph, Missouri. At KQTV Lisa was a weekend anchor, one man band reporter, and a producer. Positions she held until accepting a weekend anchor position at WAND-TV in Decatur, IL. Lisa feels both jobs helped prepare her for the bustle of covering late breaking news in Kansas City.
During her undergraduate studies at Clark Atlanta University, Lisa worked for CNN, CBS-46, and the 1996 Olympic Games. Lisa also studied abroad in the Dominican Republic, where she took great pleasure in learning about the Spanish language and culture. An interest that helps her connect with even more people in the Kansas City metro.
Lisa takes great pride in being involved in the Kansas City community. She regularly speaks to students and volunteers her time to community service organizations. Lisa is a member of the Greater Kansas City Links Incorporated, the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, and Kansas City Baptist Temple.
When Lisa's not working, she enjoys working out, shopping, relaxing with friends, photography and most of all traveling.
Lisa is always planning her next trip. While on her adventures, she enjoys photographing breathtaking sites, relaxing on the beach, and immersing herself in different cultures.
