KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It is a story about the distant future, where humanity is nearly extinct.
Kansas City filmmaker David Matheny is trying to put together that story in a 20 minute sci-fi film. It would be called "The Runaway Sun." In his story, only about 4,000 humans are left in one colony, but then they are attacked.
"The story is really about our protagonist trying to find his loved ones in the rubble, while trying to avoid an alien race," Matheny said.
He is trying to raise $30,000 by the middle of next month to make it happen. So far they've raised $3,000. Donors can get items from the movie, which should complete filming by then end of March 2014. To donate, go to http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-runaway-sun .
