Country star BILLY CURRINGTON has been placed on five years probation and ordered to attend anger management classes after pleading no contest to a charge of abuse of an elderly person.
The Perfect Day singer was slapped with the count after becoming embroiled in an alleged altercation with a 70-year-old tour boat captain in Georgia on 15 April (13). He was also accused of making terroristic threats during the incident, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Currington surrendered to police the following day and the singer was subsequently released on $25,000 bail.
He faced up to 10 years behind bars if convicted of both counts, but he managed to strike a plea deal with prosecutors and agreed to serve probation.
He entered the no contest plea on Friday (27Sep13) and as part of his punishment, he was also fined $1,000 and told to stay away from his alleged victim.
In exchange, authorities agreed to drop the threat charge.
