Designer MARC JACOBS turned down the top job at Christian Dior following advice from his psychiatrist.

The style guru was offered the role of creative director at the French fashion house after John Galliano was fired following his arrest for hurling anti-Semitic insults during a drunken rant in Paris in 2011.

Jacobs, who heads the Louis Vuitton brand, as well as his eponymous clothing lines, brought up the job with his shrink, who made him think about the consequences of taking on such a highly-publicized role.

In WWD, he is quoted as saying, "It was actually my psychiatrist who said, 'How is this going to improve the quality of your life?' and I said, 'It's not.' I mean, two more shows - and after Galliano, what he has done - when am I going to live my life?

"(I) never dreamed of being a couturier... it would be a very difficult place to work."

Belgian Raf Simons was eventually drafted in to take over from Galliano last year (12).
