The ROLLING STONES were the comeback kings at the NME Awards in London on Wednesday night (27Feb13) after picking up two top trophies.

The legendary rockers returned to the stage for a series of 50th anniversary gigs last year (12), and they were rewarded for the success of their shows with the Best Live Band trophy, as well as the Best Music Film prize for their documentary Crossfire Hurricane at the annual London prizegiving.

Guitarist Ronnie Wood, who recently confessed he's trying to persuade his bandmates to headline this summer's (13) Glastonbury festival in England, was at the event to celebrate the group's victories, and to perform.

Meanwhile, Florence Welch repeated her double win at last year's (12) ceremony by claiming the Best Solo Artist and Best Dancefloor Anthem prizes. She picked up the latter for her Sweet Nothing collaboration with Calvin Harris.

Biffy Clyro was named Best British Band, while The Killers walked away with the Best International Band trophy.

The evening's big prize for Best Album went to The Maccabees' Given To The Wild.

Johnny Marr was honored for his stellar career with the Godlike Genius Award, and the former The Smiths star told the audience at the Troxy venue, "I think it’s serious and funny and sweet and very rocking to get the Godlike Genius Award. I’m looking forward to being lazy for the rest of my life.”

He then rounded out the ceremony by taking to the stage with Wood and The Vaccines frontman Justin Young for a six-song set.

Among the losers at the bash were boy band One Direction, who were named Worst Band, while singer Harry Styles was dishonored with the Villain of the Year award.
