The launch of SELENA GOMEZ's new fashion collaboration with sports giant Adidas was marred by protests on Wednesday (06Feb13).

The former Disney star was unveiled as the Adidas NEO Label's global style icon last year (12), and Gomez has since been helping design and develop items for teens, including sneakers, clothing and accessories.

Her first collection premiered at a New York Fashion Week show on Wednesday, but the event was targeted by activists from the United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) group.

Protesters outside the venue held a banner declaring "Selena: Don't Be An Ambassador For Sweatshops".

Editors at OMG! Yahoo also allege one of the activists gained entry to the event and handed a flyer to Gomez pleading with her to "be an ambassador for children, not sweatshops".

However, the incident didn't appear to affect the singer/actress - she later took to her Twitter.com page to declare, "Amazing show for adidasNEOLabel tonight!! They looked amazing."

The USAS group alleges Adidas bosses owe severance money to former workers in Indonesia.
