Summer is officially here! With the warm temps come outdoor activities. Here are five fun things to do this weekend in KC.
The 2013 Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle is Friday and Saturday at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park at 87th and Lackman Road. The two-day event includes a festival with children’s activities and live music, but the real star is the food. Cooks from all over the country will compete for the coveted title of Grand Champion of the Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle, Kansas State Champion.
The 2013 Shakespeare Festival at Southmoreland Park runs June 18-July 7. The festival is presenting “As You Like It. The show will run Tuesday through Sunday at 8 p.m.
The 7th Annual ES Wine Fest is in Excelsior Springs this weekend. Wine lovers can head to the Elms Hotel & Spa from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Parking is free in the area, but admission is $5 for general admission or $25 for wine sampling.
The Kansas City Royals play the Chicago White Sox all weekend. Tickets run from $12-$55 and games on Saturday and Sunday are at 1:10 p.m.
The Duck Derby is Sunday on the Kristal River at Schlitterbahn. From 3:15-4:45 p.m., the Radio Disney Rockin’ Road Crew will play at Kristal Beach. At 5 p.m., 15,000 ducks will drop and race in the Kristal River. Participants can adopt a duck in person at the Bulldog Restaurant and Bar or at Schlitterbahn.
