KANSAS CITY, Mo. - This week is Polycystic Kidney Disease Awareness Week.
Peggy Robinson, a PKD patient, and Pam Lanza, a PKD researcher, stopped by 41 Action News Midday to talk about the disease and the efforts to raise awareness.
PKD is a relatively rare genetic disorder, occurring in approximately 1 in 20,000 individuals. It affects boys and girls equally and often causes significant mortality in the first month of life.
The Kansas City Walk for PKD is Saturday, September 8th at Avila University.
It’s a two mile walk and starts at 10:30 in the morning.
It’s one of many walks going on across the country in the month of September.
