KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The Kansas City Ballet started moving in to their new performance space Monday.
Production staff began loading the set for the ballet’s first performance at the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
The sets, for the world premiere ballet Tom Sawyer, were built at the Kansas City Reparatory Theatre.
The move marked the first time the new center has been used for its intended purpose.
Andrea Cline, marketing manager for the Kansas City Ballet, said “We’ll be in here for about two weeks. The first week will be more of a dry tech where they’re just bringing the pieces in for the sets. There will be no dancers and no music, but it’s really important for the theatre to make sure that everything works correctly.”
Construction on the building and parking area should be complete in the next few weeks.
The ballet, Tom Sawyer, will open the Kauffman Center’s inaugural season on October 14.
