When the warm Kansas City summer arrives, enjoy some homemade ice cream as a sweet treat. Executive Chef Shanita McAfee from Magnolia's takes a basic ice cream base and adds other flavors for a delicious finished product, like Chocolate Maple Bacon Ice Cream.
Basic Vanilla Ice Cream
3 cups Heavy Cream
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
2 Vanilla Beans
4 Egg Yolks
Heat the Cream, milk and sugar in a heavy bottomed saucepan, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved
Whisk egg yolks in a bowl and temper in about 1 cup of hot milk
When mixture is smooth pour in the sauce pan
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickens and slightly coats the back of the wooden spoon about 8 minutes DO NOT BOIL or mixture will curdle
Strain mixture into clean bowl and place in Ice bath to cool
