KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Expendables 2 is a movie that should have never been made in the first place.
The original is a weak excuse to get all the great action heroes together.
Among them in this sequel are Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damm, Jet Li, Jason Statham and of course, Chuck Norris.
"Everyone in this movie had a very stellar career and to get them all together at one time is a minor miracle," said Stallone.
Everyone who's heard of this series is probably wondering how it can be so bad.
The problem is its weak story and over-the-top/ridiculous violence.
Action movies in the 80's and 90's were done with class; and let's not forget, a majority of them had a great story.
I can't decide if the Expendables series is supposed to be a joke, or is an actual attempt of an action movie.
If the Expendables is truly an ode to action films, then it's a complete joke.
In this sequel, Mr. Church reunites the Expendables to get an easy paycheck.
But of course, things go wrong and the crew wants payback.
It's not a complex story by any means.
This can be blamed on the writers, which include Stallone himself (part of the problem right there).
However, the weak script is only half the problem.
The other part is the lousy acting from the men who used to be unstoppable.
Stallone peaked years ago and I hate to say this, but Schwarzenegger may want to think twice about stepping in front of the camera again.
I wish The Expendables could be a series that's strong, impactful and fun.
But let's just face it, it's not.
In 2012, audiences expect more from the guys who were the best in the business.
After seeing this one, the last thing you'll be saying is, "I'll be back".
The Expendables 2 is rated R for strong bloody violence.
Runtime: 1 hour and 48 minutes.
