KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A national chain of Halloween stores is reporting their sales of political masks can predict the next president.

" Spirit Halloween ” stores report in every election year since 1996, the best selling presidential candidate mask has proved to be the winner of the national race.

They say nationally, President Obama masks have been outselling masks of Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

But what does the local Halloween electorate say?

When people walk in the door of the Kansas City Costume Company , they are often momentarily stunned by the multitude of choices.

"Believe it or not, we've sold quite a few fezzes," Jennifer Benkirt said as she rang up the small red Moroccan style headpiece.

Michelle Nguyen was told by her kids to be something scary this year, and she was struggling with that.

"I think I'm going with the zombie housewife," she finally decided.

So what's the most popular presidential choice as we approach All Hallows' Eve?

Benkirt said both sides have been represented.

"We've sold some of both," Benkirt said. "And they're selling pretty well."

But if the sales of each candidate's mask can predict the election's outcome, what is the tally?

"By far, we've sold more Obama masks," Benkirt said.

Obama masks are not quite the most popular costumes in Kansas City.

Going by those scientifically proven parameters, the next President of the United States could be an evil ballerina.
