KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Many know January is a busy month for shopping returns, but did you know that it is a busy month for divorce?
In fact, statistics show that divorce filings are highest in January.
For some couples, waiting till the beginning of the new year saves their families the stress of splitting time during the holidays.
Local author and divorce counselor Suzy Brown said it could also just be a New Year's Resolution.
"A person might think, the New Year is a time to start my new life,” Brown said. “So they may have been planning this for a while and just decide to do it after the holidays.”
Divorce attorneys also said another popular time for couples to split right after they file their taxes.
