Miss Representation is an inspiring documentary produced by Oprah Winfrey that reveals how our society and in-particular young girls are being bombarded with sexually explicit images in the media.
Some girls can be swayed by those images to think less of themselves and fail to achieve their dreams and aspirations. But throughout the movie, powerful women in business, government and the media are encouraging viewers to see past those images. Young women are encouraged to set high standards and high goals.
Awesome Ambitions is hosting a showing of Miss Representation on Saturday, August 25, at 10 a.m. at American Heartland Theatre in the Crown Center Mall in Kansas City, Missouri. Following the movie, Cynthia Newsome will facilitate a group discussion between the audience and a panel of community leaders.
This is an excellent event for women’s group, youth groups, and organizations and individuals dealing with teen and pre-teen boys and girls.
The event is $10 for advance tickets online at the Awesome Ambitions website . You can also pay $15 per-person at the door.
Awesome Ambitions is a goal setting program for high school girls in the Kansas City, Missouri School District empowering them to set and achieve positive goals for their health, educations and future careers.
