KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Chef Carter Holton, a past winner of Food Network's Cake Challenge, joined 41 Action News on the set to share cake tips and trends on Saturday morning.
Holton works as a pastry chef and instructor at Art Institute International of Kansas City.
He said its important to have boundaries in place before ordering a wedding cake, especially how much the couple is willing to spend.
"When we're talking about wedding cakes, it's important to have a few sidelines when going into that wedding cake meeting with the wedding cake designer," Holton said.
Holton said do not try developing a cake at home but to leave it to professionals. Holton also said that when considering a design, couples want to think of something timeless and want to be happy when they look at their pictures 25 years from now.
Holton also said to keep it simple by picking one flavor, as it is possible some guests may not like a certain flavor or mix of flavors.
