BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Next time you’ve got a sweet tooth, try reaching for a new, guilt-free snack. A Bakersfield, Calif., fruit breeder has invented a grape variety that supposedly tastes like cotton candy.
Scientist David Cain spent 12 years perfecting the sweet snack’s flavor, which has a higher sugar content than your average grape.
Cain told the Los Angeles Times the grape is competing against other sweets like cookies and candy bars.
Nutritionists say one would have to eat about 100 grapes to equal the amount of calories in a candy bar.
The company is also working on flavors such as lollipop and gummy bear.
