KANSAS CITY, Mo. - We all know Kansas City is known for its barbecue, but since August is National Sandwich Month, Zagat took a look at the top sandwiches in each of the 50 states . (They added a bonus sandwich for Washington D.C., making the sandwich total 51).
In Kansas, they noted the "Z-Man" at Oklahoma Joe's. The sandwich includes smoked brisket, provolone cheese and onion rings on a Kaiser roll.
On the Missouri side, it's the St. Paul from Park Chop Suey in Lafayette Square.
The St. Paul consists of hot egg foo yong smothered in mayonnaise and pickle, topped with lettuce and tomato, all served on white bread.
Some say that in the 1940s, Chinese immigrants invented this sandwich to attract American eaters to their restaurants.
