KANSAS CITY, Mo. - This weekend while you're out doing yard work, be on the lookout for a potential home destroyer – termites.
Swarming season is not just for bees and wasps.
Richard Houseman, a University of Missouri Extension entomologist, said termites venture out during the warm spring weather to search for a new home.
Termites can enter your house through cracks in your foundation.
Mud trails are a good indication your home has been invaded.
"We don't discover that they're there until they've actually done some damage,” Houseman explained, “so when a termite infestation is discovered, it's important to get help for the problem right away."
Houseman says mud trails on the outside of your foundation can indicate an infestation.
To avoid the problem, get a termite treatment.
