KANSAS CITY, Mo. - If you've noticed some flowers and trees starting to bud already, you're not alone.
Some tulips, daffodils and other early bloomers are already thinking it's time for spring.
It got cold enough to make many plants dormant, but because we haven't had enough cold nights -- the ground didn't fully freeze.
"If you wanted to error of the side of caution and you really just didn't want to lose those first potential blooms...especially if you see buds on them already. Throw a bucket or a blanket over top, not plastic, something to trap a little bit of extra heat,” said Kevin Keilig, general manager of Heartland Nursery and Garden Center.
Keilig said most plants won't need any extra warmth to survive till spring.
