KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Last week we discussed problems with trees like Pine and Ash that have recently run into some serious problems due to disease or pests. The biggest issue is that we have planted a lot of species that will do okay when the weather is moderate, but have problems with hotter summers or milder winters.
If you are planning on replacing a tree or planting new additions, it is important to consider varieties that will thrive in our climate. Buying your trees from a local, reputable nursery is also very important. They can help you with planting advice, let you know if the tree or shrub will be successful at your home, and even help you plant the tree. Believe it or not, some people even do a lot of damage to their trees by not protecting them properly on the drive home!
While you may not live at your home for 30 or 40 years to see your tree grow to it's full potential, it is our responsibility to plant wisely for our future.
There are some great values in trees out there right now - check out my list of favorite and have a great week!
