GREENSBURG, Kan. - Greensburg Greentown is building a house made of wood blocks.
It's a technique used across Europe. It's the first of its kind in the United States, and it's being built in Greensburg, Kansas.
It requires no nails or glue, making the process 100 percent toxin-free. It's also eco-friendly and filled with gravel.
“It's highly durable. The German company has had it tested to withstand winds over 180 mph and 8.0 earthquake so it's kind of a good fit for disaster prone areas,” said Project Manager Joah Bussert.
The house is a net-zero-energy home, which means the building will create as much energy as it uses with additional energy needs being covered through the use of solar panels.
Ninety-five percent of Greensburg was destroyed by a tornado back in 2007.
