Kansas City, MO - A mild winter and high gas prices are pushing up sales at metro bicycle shops.
Ariel Mendez, the owner of Leawood Bicycles in Kansas City, Missouri, said he's seeing more customers come through his doors and leave with a new bike. Many of them are getting to work on their bikes so they don't have to pay to fill up their car.
"If they live within eight, nine, and ten miles from work they'd rather ride their bicycle back and forth instead of using their car, " Memdez said.
When shopping for a new bike, look for something comfortable that has flat handle bars. If you plan on using it to go to work, look for something that can carry a backpack and a change of clothes if necessary.
