KANSAS CITY, Mo. - People in need in Kansas City, Mo., were treated to a hot meal and clothing Saturday. The group Care of Poor People held its annual free dinner and giveaway.

Richard Tripp is the founder and director of the organization. He sees it as a time to serve others during this holiday season.

“What we’re about is saving lives; what we try to do is make sure they have the basic material they need to survive,” said Tripp.

Hundreds of people attend the event every year. This year it was held at Midland Metals in Kansas City, Mo. Tripp said that the people who come for a hot meal and clothes are not just homeless people. Many participants have fallen on hard times, and they’re unable to pay their bills. Everyone was also treated to a warm coat if they wanted one.
