LENEXA, Kan. - Players on the girls’ volleyball team at Mill Creek Middle School in Lenexa, Kan., are proving to be great athletes and great humanitarians.
Their Dig Pink volleyball tournament last Thursday benefiting Komen Race for the Cure was a big success.
The three girls’ teams challenged teachers at Mill Creek Middle School to three games. There was also a pre-game indoor carnival with raffle prizes, games and food. Almost 200 people attended the game and the carnival.
Before the game, I had the great honor of sharing my breast cancer story with the girls and the crowd. I reminded the crowd about the importance of monthly breast self-exams and annual mammograms.
I also helped the girls warm-up for their game against the teachers. I was on the court for about 15 minutes, and the girls made me feel like I was part of their team.
My thanks to the volleyball coaches, players and everyone who attended last Thursday.
