Newsome celebrates Christmas while skating her way to good health

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Christmas holiday inspired me to have a festive workout. So Saturday morning, I made my way to the Crown Center Ice Terrace to lace up my skates and get in the holiday mood while I got some great exercise.

While I was in line to get my skates, I met 3-year-old Leah, 7-year-old Jonatan and their dad, Solomon. Mom was at work and they live in Lenexa, Kan. They were happy to let me skate around with them, so I did.  

Jonatan was a natural on the ice. In a matter of minutes, he was on his own skating around the rink. Leah and I were both taking it slowly. I skated with her while her dad shot pictures and video. 

Leah is a little ballerina and she would pause once in a while and very slowly turn in a circle like all ballerinas do.  She was so cute!

I discovered that ice skating really does take a lot of energy and I worked up quite a sweat in the hour that I was there. I highly recommend trying it.
