KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Back in the Swing Jazzercise workout, at the Ritz Charles in Olathe, Kan., last Saturday was a great success. The event benefited Cancer Action of Greater Kansas City.
I was honored to be the emcee and about 200 women attended the big event. When it was over, Kelly Sweeney, Jazzercise District Manager for Kan. and Mo., offered participants in the Newsome Weight Loss Challenge one free pass to a Jazzercise class during February.
Sweeney said the Jazzercise motto is “Every shape, every size, every age.” She liked the idea that the Newsome Weight Loss Challenge is building a community of people who are losing weight to be healthy, and she wanted to show her support.
"Sometimes Jazzercise members will start exercising because their doctor told them to exercise," Sweeney explained. "Then once they start exercising, their high cholesterol drops to normal, they start feeling great and so they continue the program for the fun of it.”
"For people who wait to start exercising until they're 40 or 45, it's hard," she added.
Sweeney recommends older first-timers start slowly.
"Find some kind of activity or workout that you like, go with some friends and set your pace at an easy level," Sweeney concluded.
