KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City’s second off-leash dog park will open in Swope Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.

The Swope Park Off-Leash Area is located along Gregory Boulevard, just east of Elmwood Avenue and the Lakeside Nature Center.

This is the city’s second off-leash dog park, following the one that opened in 2004 in Penn Valley Park. The Swope Park Off-Leash Area features a one-acre fenced area for small dogs and a four-acre fenced area for larger dogs.

Kansas City-based animal health company Ceva Animal Health, the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, the Keep the L.O.V.E. Alive Behavior Express Tour 2012 bus and veterinarian Debra Horwitz will be among the featured guests at a free pet fair featuring demonstrations, giveaways, pet adoptions and more.

The Pet Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the dog park.
