MERRIAM, Kan. - A Kansas City area animal shelter has a new name and a new logo after a lawsuit forced the change.
Heartland SPCA is now Great Plains SPCA.
The shelter was forced to change their name after the Heartland Animal Clinic in Overland sued for trademark infringement.
Other changes are also on the way for the shelter. This fall they will open a new, 10,000 square foot pet adoption center that will triple their capacity.
In February 2013, they plan to open a new education and training facility to help their community outreach efforts.
