Hoarding case prompts adopt-a-thon

Kansas City, Mo. - The 150 cats found hoarded at a local home has prompted the Kansas City Animal Shelter to launch a special adopt-a-thon Monday.

The Kansas City Animal Shelter will hold the adopt-a-thon during the next few days.

The shelter is putting about 50 cats up for adoption.

These are cats that have been at the shelter for some time, so they are hoping people will provide the animals a new home.

Kennel manager, Dennis Moriarty said, "If they can come out and help us out, not just help the community out, but help all these great cats find a new home, these cats are very deserving to have somebody to love them."

The animal shelter decided to hold this adopt-a-thon now because it took in an abundance of cats earlier in the week.

Police found 150 cats at a house in the Northland. Officials said it was one of the worst cases of animal abuse and hoarding they had ever seen.

Those cats are still under medical supervision.

The shelter says the cats will need a lot of care before they can be adoptable so they may reach out to other rescue agencies in the region to help in the recovery.

The shelter is located at 4400 Raytown Road in Kansas City, Mo. It will be open on Monday from noon until 6 p.m.
