KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Montana owner of Grizz, a 1-year-old Lab/Pit mix, is eager to reunite with him after he ended up in the Kansas City area last month.

A couple, moving from Washington State to Texas, stopped in Montana and saw Grizz wandering around.

Thinking he was a stray, they decided to take him on their move.

Two days and about 1,200 miles later, the couple decided to drop him off at Heartland SPCA Lost Pet & Intake Center.

The shelter found a microchip on Grizz and contacted the owners for a reunion. The phone number affiliated with the microchip was disconnected but Heartland SPCA was able to contact the animal shelter where the dog was microchopped and they had valid contact information for its owners.

Longtime volunteer of Heartland SPCA Kathi Thies volunteered to drive Grizz half way home. Grizz's owner is eager to meet her in Cheyenne, Wyo.

"I believe in the golden rule and do unto others as you would have them do unto you, I would certainly want someone to do this for me, so that's why I have to do this for Grizz and his family,” said volunteer Kathi Thies.

Thies and Grizz left Kansas City Wednesday evening.
