KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City’s aquarium is about to get a rare new tenant.
SEA LIFE Kansas City will welcome Rhina, a Bowmouth Guitar Shark, to the Crown Center aquarium.
Bowmouth Guitars are incredibly rare in aquariums. Less than 10 in the United States have the species, making it known as the “panda” of aquariums.
They have heads shaped like stingrays and can grow to be about 8.5 feet long and 300 pounds.
Rhina is young, SEA LIFE officials say, though her exact age wasn’t clear. She has a brown body with white spots.
SEA LIFE, opened in April 2012, joined LEGOLAND as the two new attractions to Kansas City’s Crown Center this spring.
