(NBC) - Terriers are known to be headstrong, and Patch, Deidre Anglin's Jack Russell, is no different.
He took off from Anglin’s home in Kildare, Ireland on Tuesday night.
After searching for hours, Anglin alerted all her friends on Facebook that Patch was gone.
Meanwhile, Patch walked a mile to the train station and early Wednesday morning and boarded a train to Dublin.
Passengers alerted the Irish Rail staff, who tweeted a picture of Patch.
It was retweeted 500 times before Anglin saw it.
"He's delighted to home again,” she said. “He had a good old journey for the day."
Irish Rail officials said Anglin was alerted that they had Patch just 30 minutes after staff had sent the original tweet.
Anglin said that on the train ride home with Patch, people kept asking her if that was the dog on Twitter.
