KANSAS CITY, Mo. - An Episcopal church in downtown Kansas City took to the streets Wednesday to help believers celebrate Ash Wednesday.
Father Peter Deveau of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral said he did it because it's important to spread his message outside of the church.
"The church, a lot of times, just stays behind its walls and lives its life kind of on its own,” he said. “But I really feel it has a message that's important for our time and for all times, and so we're here on the streets of Kansas City, and it's just good to be here with our neighbors."
Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent, which ends on Easter Sunday, April 8.
