SHAWNEE, Kan. - This Valentine’s Day was extra special for two Kansas City area teachers.
Near the end of the school day, Kaleb Stoppel proposed to his girlfriend Allison Blanchard.
Stoppel teaches math at Winnetonka High School and Blanchard teaches math at Mill Valley High School. The two met through the online dating site, Match.com, five months ago.
But they have more in common than that. After meeting, they realized that Blanchard teaches at the same high school as both of Stoppel’s parents. His mom is the school’s music teacher and his dad is a Para-educator for Mill Valley.
Stoppel’s mom helped arrange the singing valentine, and he jumped out from behind the group to pop the question.
Both of them are very passionate about teaching, and that is why Stoppel wanted to propose in front of her “school family”.
“Coaching, teaching, we have so many similarities when it comes to our jobs. And to me, once I had the idea to share this with the school, at the school, it was a no brainer. And I said that's the way it has to be," Stoppel said.
Blanchard said yes, and the two hope to plan a July 2012 wedding.
