The most popular room in our home is our kitchen. But sometimes we need to look beyond these walls.
“One of the important things is to have an open airy house. Everybody wants that. Nobody wants the individual small cut up house with small rooms. So everybody wants everything to open up into other rooms. This is accomplished by tearing down walls. So a lot of people are not familiar with the fact that they can do that and can create an open airy space in the house that they've got without moving,” said Mike Brocato of City Wide Remodelers.
Brocato says, when considering remodeling you should always start with the most used room in your home - the kitchen.
“By just changing the hardware on the cabinets, the countertops, the backsplash and the appliances can really change the entire kitchen. The second thing I would suggest is the bathrooms. So the kitchen and the bathrooms - those are the two most important rooms in the house. Those are the rooms that are going to give you the most bang for your buck and the most return on your investment,” said Brocato.
The biggest disappointment for Brocato is being hired to remodel a home just so people can move elsewhere.
“I've seen them go in and remodel the house just to sell it. And you know that's really a shame. Because they could have remodeled it 5 -10 years ago or as they went along and enjoyed those remodels and been able to live during that process and enjoy that stuff,” said Brocato.
One more reminder -- never pay for any remodeling up front and always make sure your remodeler is a member of NARI, the National Remodelers Association of America. That's it! Have a great week!
