KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Workers at the General Motors Fairfax plant in KCK voted to authorize a strike Thursday, a worker who answered the phone at the plant said early Friday.
The yes-vote gives the bargaining committee and the the International Union the authority to call for a strike, if necessary. Ninety percent of voters voted yes.
The vote was called after workers rejected a new local union contract.
It wasn’t clear how many of the plants approximate-4,000 workers voted.
The plant manufactures the Chevy Malibu, which was the company's second-best selling car in the U.S. last year.
