The best time to buy a car could be this weekend

OLATHE, Kansas - If you are in the market for a new car now could be the best time to buy.

Lauren McCarthy with McCarthy Auto Group in Olathe says they usually offer deals on holidays. However, the Labor Day weekend deals may be the best.

“The manufacturers definitely support the dealerships with extra incentives, special financing, interest rates and extra bonus cash to customers. So I definitely think that Labor Day is a good time to buy a car,” says McCarthy.

The reason is manufacturers want to get rid of the current model years to make room for the next model year. Many of the 2011 models will roll onto lots later this month.

This could turn into some much needed good news.

Auto sales were down 21 percent in August over last year when the popular “cash for clunkers” program was in full swing. Sales were down five percent from July of this year.

McCarthy is hopeful that this weekend is the beginning of an uptick in sales across the region.
