KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The Boulevard Brewing Co. announced Monday it will bring back the mega-popular Chocolate Ale that flew off store shelves and out of restaurant kegs almost as soon as it arrived.
“Holy cow, did we ever misjudge your feelings towards chocolate in beer,” the company said in a statement posted on their website .
The Kansas City brewery said it packaged the same amount of Chocolate Ale as it has other “Smokestack” series brews, roughly 19,200 bottles and 350 kegs at 5.2 gallons each.
Those bottles and kegs didn’t last long , with many retailers selling out within hours of receiving them Tuesday and most restaurants running dry on their kegs by the end of the weekend.
“It was a tempest that left most everyone — from brewery staff, to distributors, to retailers, to you, our loyal customers — confused and frustrated,” the statement read.
Boulevard apologized to those who unsuccessfully tried to find the ale and announced the brew, initially planned as a one-time release, will return next Valentine’s Day.
“We will learn from this experience,” the company said, “and, we hope, better anticipate demand of future releases.”
