CORAOPOLIS, Penn. - Dick's Sporting Goods is pulling certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles off its shelves nationwide.
In a statement to CNN, the store says it's also removing all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Conn.
The retailer says the change comes out of respect for the victims and families of last week's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, where 20 kids and six adults died at the hands of a gunman carrying an assault rifle and handguns.
It's unclear how long the store will keep the suspension in place.
The announcement by Dick's follows another move by one of the nations largest firearm sellers Walmart. The retail giant pulled the Bushmaster M4-A3 rifle from online sales. That rifle is similar to the one used by Adam Lanza, the suspect in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.
