MISSION, Kan. - The site of the old Mission mall received new life Wednesday night.
The Mission City Council voted 5-3 to approve the Mission Gateway project in council meeting moved to a nearby community center to handle a large crowd gathered for public comment.
The vote leads the way for several new retail shops and residential units to move in the area.
Walmart has plans to open a store as part of the Gateway project, which has upset some residents as the retail giant plans to close an older location a short drive away in Roeland Park, Kan.
The $165 million project would sit on about 17 acres.
