KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A local car dealer is accused of using his customers' sensitive personal information to get big money from auto finance companies.
According to court documents, Terry Lee Morrow Jr., operated Edge Auto Sales, formally located along 24 Highway in Independence. He is accused of identity theft, forgery and unlawful merchandising practices.
In court documents, investigators allege Morrow took personal information from his customers, such as dates of birth, social security and driver’s license numbers. He would then forge documents to secure car loans.
Morrow allegedly used the customers' name, dates of birth and social security numbers, but would change or fabricate their addresses and other details.
One car finance company paid out at least $170,251.23 and transferred the money to an account held by Morrow. Court documents state Morrow admitted to fraudulently using personal information of at least 18 Missouri residents.
Morrow is in jail in DeKalb Co., Ill., held on a $500,000 bond.
The Missouri Attorney General's office and Jackson County Prosecutor will hold a news conference with more details for consumers Tuesday.
