KANSAS CITY, Mo. - If you've been targeted by scam artists, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri wants to hear from you.
McCaskill visited Kansas City Tuesday to speak about efforts to crack down on scam artists. She has been traveling around Missouri in recent weeks making the pitch to consumers.
In a news conference at the Jackson County Courthouse with Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker and Doug Noland from the Missouri Attorney General’s office, McCaskill said it's important to not only report scams to local and state authorities, but also let her office know about consumer frauds and government waste.
"The reason it's important that I know about those is that maybe this is a systemic problem that the FTC needs to be looking at. Maybe this is a scam that warrants a hearing in the United States Senate,” McCaskill said.
The senator was recently appointed chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection.
